Default DRL's

OK, let me start out with these are a superficial, automotively vain, useless mod...so hold off on the heaping of ridicule and public scorn...

imho blue will look better

I've read the stock bulb is 21W, and the blue a/m are 27W
and that the extra heat may damage the housings...

2 solutions:
use the VAG to reduce the power to the bulb, I've read it's adjustable
if we assume 100% is OK with a 21W then 21/27 x 100 ~ 75% should be ~ the same temp with the 27W

or a power/voltage divider, one in series resistor sized as follows:

we want the 27W bulb to operate at 21W:
P = I^2 R = V^2/R = VI

bulb R:
27 = 13.2^2 / R .. solving.. R ~ 6.5 ohm

we want the current to limit P so the loop I is:
21 = I^2 R .. solving.. I = 1.8 A

so loop R = 13.2/1.8 (R = V/I) ~ 7.3 ohm less the bulbs 6.5 ohm we need ~ 1 ohm

actual I = 13.2/(6.5+1) ~ 1.76A
bulb P = 1.76^2 x 6.5 ~ 20W
power disapated across the resistor = 1.76^2 x 1 ~ 3W

so a 1 ohm 5W resistor in series will limit the power to bulb at 20W
this should prevent overheating...

now I'm not fond of cutting/splicing wires so I'm going to try and locate a VAG unit to set the power at 70-75% and see what it looks like...

Simple solution: turn off DRL's, they're a silly idea anyway.

lol smartass remarks here as always..

anything that gives off light can be seen better. uh, that would mean other drivers can see you more clearly. it was invented for saftey rather than a silly feature. in canada they are mandatory..

there are enough idiots driving on the road these days.. i hope they can spot my DRL and not hit me. like when they change lanes without checking their blind spot.

Exactly right, which is exactly why DRL's immediately evaporated the principle advantage motorcyclists had to stay alive. Do some research, DRL's are not what they're cracked up to be safety-wise... smartass!

one thing I like about them...

there seems to be continuous road construction in my area...the law requires headlights when in the construction zones...the DRL's suffice, at least according to the cops I've asked...

it's a nice feature that they can be turned on/off with a switch rather than coding...
