Default fark...has anyone had to replace their windshield?

what started as a bullseye chip in the extreme lower left corner has turned into a 12" long crack. Dealership quoted me $566 installed to replace. 89glass.com quoted $361.75, but it's unclear whether that accounts for the rain sensor....is it part of the windshield?

BTDTs welcome...

Default That sucks...

have to watch those black areas on the outside for chips and get them repaired fast. Had this happen multiple times on my B5.

Default I think it just happened this morning.

by the time I got to work, there was a 4-6" long crack, which probably could have been sealed and wouldn't have bothered me because of the location. But I just went to look at it during lunch, and it had doubled in size...just from sitting there in the parking lot...wtf?

Default Sorry to hear...rain sensor...

is integral, IIRC. Also, auto dimming mirror feature. So make sure you get the right windshield. There should be an electrical connection in the rear view mirror housing.

Yup, had that happen also. Nothing and then giant crack all in 24 hours.

Default My RS4 windshield developed a crack from no apparent strike...

The crack suddenly appeared from the lower edge, almost dead center of the windshield and has been creeping to the left, even as the car sits in the garage. The crack has grown about 10 inches horizontally without the car having been moved at all. This has been a real mystery in that there was no rock strike or anything of the sort where the crack began to appear from the base of the windshield. My dealer wants to inspect, but is skeptical of a warranty claim on this. I haven't had the chance to visit the dealer some 200 miles from my base. The car has fewer than 1000 miles.

Default if at all possible stick with the dealer

esp. for accountability issues and sensor issues. whoever they sublet to prob also has plenty of experience with audis.

Absolutely, and check/consider full glass coverage on your insurance.
