Hello from a soon to be new owner...
I've been digging through this place, lots of good info...
I've been driving M3's since ~1990: e30, e36 & e46, at least 400k miles...
the new e9x's are great cars, but the high-strung engine and the reported **** poor mpg are deal breakers...the looks are so-so...but that's not high on my priority list...
the awd and 4 doors, plus rarity make the RS4 stand-out, plus I'm getting a great deal...and it is a good looking car...
my only concern:the M3 is such an inherently balanced car, I'm a bit nervous about the RS4's nose heavy configuration/weight: I've driven one and the awd mitigates/masks it well, but over time who knows if I'll tire of it...but it's only a car, I can change again...so the RS4 it is...
I'm closing the deal on an RS4 sedan:
2007, titled 8/07
Imola yellow
no premium, no sunroof
<8500 miles
CPO'ed (total almost 4.8 years >90k miles)
I've done some searching an have 2 questions:
1 is there an owners manual on-line?
2 will I get an insurance break for the 'German safety yellow' paint job
is it true there's only 1800 cars in the states?
I generally don't mod my cars, maybe cosmetics (reflectors) and Eibach springs...no engine stuff...the engine is a jewel as is...
thanks guys...

AWD makes the power much more useable.......
Just mash the throttle and go. No worries. You will ALWAYS be in supreme control. Here's what you want to do.....
Get into 3rd gear going 50mph. Make sure sport mode is on and the ESP is in the full off position. Now downshift to 2nd and nail the gas. This single maneuver should confirm that you made the right decision.

I had a heavily modded e46 M3 before the RS4...
the M3 is much more of a drivers car. The RS4 still feels very heavy and no where near as balanced. I will eventually put the stasis MS suspension.
Its a great daily car though, and easier to live with then the M3. The engine's power band is much more usable too. My M3 was more reliable though, it was solid as a rock. My RS4 has made a few trips to the dealer already. Overall though, Im happy with the RS4.
At the end of the day, they are very different cars IMO.

Had stock RS6 and heavily modded e46 M3
Sold both and bought an e90 M3.
No regrets.
No DRC.
But the DCT has yet to be sorted out, and the RS6 was quieter inside.
I agree with above. The M3 is more of a driver's car. It really is a different animal than the RS4. On the street, though, I can't fault either of them.
