How many would opt for a 997 C4S over the RS4 if you didn't need four doors or a trunk?

It's a tough call. Another 'point' for the RS4 is the relative (to 997) stealth factor.
I tend to drive quite quickly, and it's nice to have a car that is a little more stealth than the 997.
However, that same point is what makes the 997 so desirable as well. It's a 'look back over your shoulder after you park it car' like no other. The particular car I'm contemplating has the adjustable sport seats, short shifter, sport exhaust, sport wheels (19x11.5 rear), etc - very well appointed:

I wouldn't want a 997 with "extensive mods" as a daily driver either. But this car, with PASM
is pretty liveable as far as ride quality goes, and it has the same type of sport exhaust as the RS4 in that a push of a button on the dash changes it from loud to soft via a valve on the muffler, like the "S" button.
So it's a pretty liveable car, all the way around, and with a Jeep to drive to Home Depot, etc, and the fact that you CAN put four people in the 997 in a pinch, it's a tough decision...
I do greatly prefer the engine/exhaust noise of the RS4.

Re: I think the 997 turbo is a little ugly,
It all is very personal, but really the GT3 is probably the car I would want anyway. I agree turbo lag is not ideal, but Porsche has done a great job of dealing with most of it. It no longer is like the 930 turbo which would bite you in the *** bigtime if you did not watch out.

Agree. I was biking around the block with my kids three times before I realized that the dark grey " A4 " I kept passing head on was actually an RS4 , when we did a U-turn and I noticed the rear badge ! One in a brighter color like Sprint or white would have announced it's presence easier, I'm sure.

Was the one you drove equipped with the PASM suspension system? I'm curious why you say
I'm curious why you say the RS4 is MUCH more comfortable to drive distances - most reports seem to indicate the PASM-equipped cars are quite comfortable, to an extent that I'd expect it to be similar to the RS4, which isn't exactly a 'luxury cruiser' by any means.

Back seat in 911s ( even the larger 996 and on models )is not big enough for anyone over 10 years old. I sat once in the back of mine for 30 minutes while my wife was driving , trying to isolate a rattle. My neck was sore for three days !
