I'd like Jason Teller to explain this...
...reading the S6 road test (written by JET), I stumbled on this gem:
..."the S6 provides both the interior space and the world-class powerplant which the RS4 lacks."
so, in other words, having the highest piston speed of any production engine ever made, having 100hp/liter of displacement, and having just 15hp less output than the S6 V10 with a full LITER less displacement isn't "world class"? exactly what is your definition of world class?

The S6 lets you scare the **** out of people in more rear seat comfort.
However you will need to go back to the leather cleaning discussion for both cars if you take your friends out for a "full potential" ride.

Well, I can't speak for Jason... but the S6 is no slouch for a 'big' car, 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds.
Not that the RS4 is one either... they are differnt animals IMO. Also, I think you have to look at not only the HP but the torque numbers on the S6 as well... almost 400. Again I just think they are different.... neither one better then the other.

I think..
Bob's point speaks specifically to that one sentence. I can't speak for him, but I don't think anyone here thinks poorly of the S6.
As a sports car, the RS4 is obviously closer to a full on sports car, for as much as any sedan can be.
The RS4 leans more towards performance and sports where the S6 leans more towards comfort and then performance.
The perfect garage would be the S6 with the R8. You've got all your bases covered. The RS4 is like a combination of both?

correct, I'm merely puzzled by the comment regarding the powerplant.
not disputing anything else in the article. I just don't understand how anyone couldn't see the RS4 4.2 as a world-class powerplant. Maybe it's not as *exotic* as a V10 (though even that statement would be a stretch). It's been said that the RS4 engine may be the best EVER MADE....strong words from Clarkson, but then again, he's driven everything.

"don't be so hard on yourself, you're a terrific slouch"
anyway...yeah, I was just referring to the comment on the engine itself. I'm sure if the S6 had been available a few months ago, I would have had a tough time choosing.

I meant the COMBINATION
I know the wording is a little funny. I think the V10 is a world class powerplant and the S6 provides a bunch more space than the RS4 (especially for my 6'6" frame). Sorry for the confusion.
