Hey guys,
I dont post here too often, but read constantly. I have an 08 RS4, 6K miles on it, and yesterday I test drove an 08 Carrera, 07 Cayman S, and an 03 911 Turbo, and now I have the itch to get into one of these. Problem is, I cant keep the RS if I do. All opinions please.....thanks

im hesitant to buy the 03, and I do like having somewhat of a back seat, so probably the Carrera. I also have an 08 STI, and my fiance argues that it would be nice to keep a practical car. So, I guess my issues is whether or not I will miss the RS if I buy the Carrera....help

I had a 1997 Porsche C4S, the last year of the air cooled engines. Great car. I sold it to buy my RS4. I think the answer to your question is very personal. I live in the Rocky Mountains, in Vail. It snows here 6 months a year. Despite the fact that the C4S was all wheel drive, and I had 4 snow tires, it was not very good in the snow because the tires were so huge and it was so light. It floated on the snow. I ended up driving it so little in the winter it was frustrating. I am in real estate sales and I could not take more than one client out in it.
I still have a "beater car" (1995 90S quattro) for the really bad days, but I am able to enjoy my RS4 all year.
The other thing is, the stealth factor. The cops saw me coming a mile away in that Porsche profile. I think you will get less tickets in the RS4.
The power of the RS4 completely blows away my 97 C4S. Porsche is brilliant. Only if it works for your lifestyle. (Like if you live in Florida?) I would love to have another Porsche, but only if I can keep my RS4. The RS4 will be a classic, like the original E30 M3 (I had one of those, too).

I have an STI, but it's an '04...I drove the '08... I think with mods it would be a very nice car.

Is the carerra an S? If not, I reccomend not buying it. Sorry, but the S is nicer. I know Porsche mechanics who don't like 996's...I skipped them altogether. Had a 997S...sold it... The RS4 is a 'classic,' and will be forever, like the MB 300sl 6.3. "we" get bored with anything, and like to swap out...it's easier than doing it with the ladies, isn't it?
I love the Cayman, if you find it big enough...incredible driving car. Put in an LSD and you're set. 997 platform is dated, no matter how well it works.

Turbo, Targa and C4S models only, and in limited numbers. The Carerra was sold in the 996 design.

yeah, my fear is that I will totally miss the RS4 if I sell it for the Carrera. The one I drove was not an S, but I would probably go for the S if I traded the RS4. Maybe I can convince the wife that I should keep the Rs4, STI, and lease a Cayman S.....
