Lexus announces pricing on 2008 IS-F
Base price is $56,765 plus $765 destination. The RS 4 is going to be a tough sell for the remainder of 2008 given the lower price point of its chief competitors. It's a good thing the IS-F is hideous looking. Also sicne it's only offered as an automatic, there will be less cross shopping between cars like the M3 and RS 4 against the C63 and IS-F.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=124270</a

Isn't the new M3 priced lower as well? Not that I would choose either over the Rs4, but I heard
its also going to be priced significantly lower than the Rs4, which would not bode well for the Rs4 resale value

Remember, BMW's cars come stripped at base price
The new M3 with all options will DEFINITELY top the RS4's price. You could option the previous M3 up to $60k fully loaded. And the convertibles were up around $65k loaded.
IIRC, R&T's latest M3 test drive has the estimated price up around the RS4's.
In all honesty though, the RS4 and the M3 will not exactly be sold concurrently for long. With a spring introduction here (on the M3) and the RS4 being phased out at the end of '08, it's less than a year of people cross shopping the two. So does it even matter how closely they price?

Id say the car to be afraid of is going to be the new Cadillac CTS-V with 550hp
The new Cadillac CTS-V is using a detuned version of the Corvette ZR-1(LS9) engine known as the LSA. Its going to be offered in both manual and automatic. I think they got the looks pretty good for an American car this time and there is no doubt the interior is the best Ive ever seen on an American car as well.

Kiddies from the "right" side of the tracks will buy this in lieu of a Mercedes. While the RS4
is subdued enough to fly under radar as an executive express, the M3 a tad less mature, and the IS-F is one step removed from an EVo or Civic with a body kit. Not sure if many of the people who can afford it, will want the image that comes with it.
