Mag article says the euro steering wheel is plastic, not aluminium...
I have a May copy of Audi Driver... bit old, but just got it (Brit mag).
They have an article on the RS4 (sorry, I don't have a scanner) I quote:
"Most attention will be directed at the steering wheel; the bottom section clad in what, at first sight, appears to be aluminium, and flattened to give more clearance over the thighs. In fact, it is plastic rather than metal and, in our opinion, is the one of the few features which lets the RS4 down. It is a case of execution rather than styling: it looks good, but the plastic doesn't feel good, especially as there is a seam around the periphery and, when you run your fingers behind it, you can feel the recesses for the fasteners."

Agreed, its the same wheel in the S4, gimme a break
Its an excellent wheel. Its fatter than most, its solid, its well stiched.
When I first got my S4 I was very impressed with it. Sure, there are better, but a KIA? Gimme a break, its not that bad.

Are you sure about that? I don't think so..
We have true aluminum in the interior right? I mean that is real brushed aluminum trim inside my S4?
It never gets blazing hot nor does it get dead cold. I don't spend a lot of time touching it but I have touched it in both weather conditions out of curiosity and it was not as you suggest.
Maybe it was a cost saving measure, or perhaps more likely a safety issue in terms of how the wheel deformed during colission? Or maybe they figured aluminum isn't strong enough for an area of the car that is under constant stress (people do bang on their steering wheels)..
Just some other possibilities that I am making up out of thin air
