Default Need serious help.. high RPM power loss! *UPDATE*

*UPDATE* 9-24-08: I have installed the new Fuel Pressure Sensor from the TSB and it has NOT resolved the power loss issue.

Hey everyone,

I've read post after post on here about people experiencing power loss around 5,500/6,500 rpm. Can't seem to find a solution.

Background: 2008 RS4 7,400 miles, Milltek full exhaust, Revo flash. (had a K&N filter) back to stock filter now. I have checked through Vag-Com and there are no DTC's... no check engine light on.

What's happening with me is i'm very noticeably losing power around 6,500 rpm when at full throttle. When I reach that rpm my head falls foward as if I had let off the throttle and I actually feel the motor stuttering a bit.

What I've done to try to resolve this issue (based on other posts I've read with this problem) in this order:

1. Put the stock air filter back in and replaced the MAF sensor with a new one. (No difference)

2. Had KMD Tuning check my Revo software to make sure it was setup right etc.. all checked out ok. It is set to performance mode.

3. Deflapped the air box. (No difference)

4. Replaced all 8 coil packs. (No difference)

After trying all of that the symptoms are still the same.

Why not take it to the dealer since my car is warrantied? I'm just worried i'm going to hear the same old excuse of "we can't replicate the problem". Unless I'm wrong and they will actually try to accelerate the car up to 8,000 rpm to try to replicate it.

Has anyone figured out what else could be the cause of this power loss?

Thanks for hearing me out guys..

Go to the dealer and take your service rep for a spin and show him the problem.

The service rep and techs that I work with don't really like pushing the car to redline. So when I have a problem I usually take them out for a spin.

fuel pressure sensor...there's a TSB for it that may apply to your VIN.

Default You can absolutely do that. It's a good idea to do so. I've driven around with techs...

in past cars of mine so that they can hear / locate rattles and such.

Some dealers really don't want to drive customer's cars... and that is fine with me.

Default What if the intake isn't shifting into it's short-runner mode at 5500?...

First I guess there would a fault code and second would it really stumble noticeably?
Nah, has to be fuel.

Default EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME! ....

There is a TSB on this. The vacuum assembly under the intake runners which changes from hi to low speed runners has failed. It is a relatively easy fix. Make it crystal clear to the techs you don't want the dreaded "Hood Gap" when they put the front back on your car. You can also lose the sick feeling in you stomach that feeling your engine fall on its face like that gives you. Mine runs just as strong as ever since the fix, my only bitch was it took 2 returns to the dealer to get the hood gap issue resolved.
