You did a much better job than me, Jet!
Their board is one of emotion, not fact, and I think they are very frustrated that they beloved M3 is only marginally better than an Audi. The fact that an RS5 looms 2 years over the horizon terrifies them. About the time they can afford to purchase an M3, the RS5 will be poised to smoke them. Oops! With all the arrogance and bravado that BMW has, it's amazing to me that it appears they didn't think the M3 design through to it's logical conclusion in the market place.

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt
If you read all the reviews, either the M3 is marginally better, or the RS4 is marginally better.
In the end, I personally think the M3 will post slightly better numbers, and I think that the M3 feels the way it does because of the extra weight necessary to handle the power, and newer regulatory compliance issues. My opinion is that these things cause the M3 to feel a bit less responsive than the previous version, which totally torques-off the BMW faithful.
I also think that the RS4 will probably be regarded as the most well rounded driving experience when all things are considered.
But hell, who the f am I?

Re: If it about numbers, the C63 will be better yet...
and AMG seems to have gotten the handling straightened out. Huge power with a fast 7 speed auto, it will be difficult to beat from a numbers perspective.
