Default only 50% power in 1st 2nd 3rd Can anyone confirm ??

The other day I read the following in a thread at http://www.pistonheads.co.uk

The standard mapping only gives max 50% throttle below 5500rpm in first 3 gears. This must have a massive amount to do with:

1) Why standard cars can feel underwelming compaired to similar "powered" cars
2) Why a re-map makes the car feel completely different (I am presuming this throttle limiting is removed during re-maps?).

Can anyone confirm if this is true, and why Audi chose to do so ??

Thanks
Bajano

Default BS! The ECU will limit power only under 5K in miles after that the gradual........

increase is over and power is set at 100%.

Default Not quite true, under some conditions the throttle valve remains only partially open until 5K rpm

I've got logs that show it.

Default The amount of power the engine produces is correlated with the amount of load present.

I would believe first and maybe second gear since there may not be enough load, but 3rd seems like a reach.

not true....I have numerous logs showing 99.6% throttle as low as 1840rpm to nearly redline

Default

under what conditions? I've never seen that, even after repeated runs at close to 100F ambient.

Default I don't know what the conditions are.

clearly there are differences in your logs and mine. I'm not sure why. I've also got some that have the throttle valve open at lower rpm and I can't say what the reason is.

Default First logs were at around 11K miles

Interestingly enough, my MAF numbers at the low end are no different than Bobs. I was running at 40F, he was at 100F. It may very well be that the throttle opening is adjusted for air density.

Default I will say this: now that the temps here have dipped into the upper 40s a few times....

...the car does feel MUCH more brisk. I need to do some more logs.
