Default Opinions on extended warranty through Audi - $2,000 takes warranty on a 25k-mile car to 70k miles.

This is a cost I am evaluating in the context of my purchase of a 2007 RS4.

This basically the equivalent of dealer CPO to 70k miles. It is Audi's exclusionary warranty - highest level of coverage means it covers everything except wear items (non-covered items include things like brake pads, rotors, suspension bushings, clutch, etc). Especially if DRC is being treated as a warranty repair versus a recall this seems like a good deal to me. Basically the warranty is insurance that if DRC (or any other non-wear item) goes bad in the next 5 years, I am covered.

Default You can always buy it a a later date...

My dealer in fact said: "you pay for it now if you may not hold the car for 4+ yrs". He claimed price of their warranty is not a function of how old the car is, so per him there was no downside on waiting and purchasing it near the end of the factory warranty.

Default Agreed

it is my understanding that as long as it is purchased prior to the 48month 50K mile factory warranty, the price is the "same". Be aware there will be a small inflationary adjustment.

I would wait. If you decide to keep it long term, great. If not, you save the money.

Default sounds good, but as stated below, wait until *just before* the factory warranty expires.

price might go down a little, but if you wait just 1 day after the factory warranty expires, the price will go up by as much as 50%.

FWIW, I paid $1600 for a 3yr/36k extended warranty on my old '00 A6 2.7T and it paid for itself in the first year. In total, it paid for itself almost 3 times over.

also, you should talk to your service writer and ask for their opinion on that particular extended warranty. ultimately, they're the ones who will have to deal with the warranty company when getting repairs authorized, and they will know which warranties are good and which ones are a PITA.

Default If it is straight from Audi, that sounds good. I had similar warranty from 3rd party...

on my E46 M3. Cost about the same but I think it was up to 90Kmi. However, there was a some deductible which I forgot how much.

Do yours have deductible? Is it directly from Audi?

or does it vary from each dealership?

Default Be careful, as each warranty company is different

99% rate cars on model year age and mileage at time of purchase. Some will let you buy up until 1 day before factory warranty expiration, many others require 30 days and 1K miles of factory coverage left.

So if you've selected one you want, and are waiting so you get the least overlap possible, just make sure you know what the requirements are for the rate/term/plan you want.

Default I was told such was not the case from Audi

that is was the same price now or then, but I agree independent research is a must here.
