Default Paging dxben: Car (BMW) and Driver, First Drive: 2008 BMW M3 - Previews

Oh yes, dxben will love this:

"Dropping the hammer from a standstill, we blasted to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, 0.4 second quicker than the previous car, with the quarter-mile dispatched in 12.9 seconds at 111 mph, an even larger, 0.7-second gain. The surface wasn't ideal, however, and we expect even better numbers once we get one to our usual test track. Even so, that's already enough to outrun the $69,785 Audi RS 4."

"With V-8 competitors like the upcoming 451-hp Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG and 400-plus-hp Lexus IS-F, and the 420-hp Audi RS 4, we're leading up to one heck of a showdown--one that, based on our drive, the M3 has a very strong chance of winning."<ul><li><a href="http://www.caranddriver.com/previews/13419/first-drive-2008-bmw-m3.html">http://www.caranddriver.com/previews/13419/first-drive-2008-bmw-m3.html</a</li></ul>

Default lol, you're right. . . dxben will love this write-up ;-/

I was up all night worried about the the boys on the M3 forum. Thankfully, this article will nurse and revive their egos.

I believe that magazine prefers to be called " CAR and BEEMER".

Default BMW & Driver is about the worst example of an Automotive Mag I have ever seen.

They are childish, their writing is about on par with a 3rd grader, and the pictures look like they were taken with a first-gen camera phone. Oh yeah, and their love for BMW is un-relinting. Even when I owned multiple BMW's I got sick to my stomach with how much they promoted BMW.
I've actually been thinking about the new M3 a little, but am having so much trouble getting over the looks I don't know how interested I am. I am going to wait for it to hit the dealerships and then make a decision. I am definitely keeping the RS4 and most likely will pick the upcoming RS5 over the E92 M3.
BMW Driver lost my attention when they said how great the single-piston brakes were. Hmmmmm......Single-Piston brakes are good!?!?!? Since when? I guess Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini are missing the boat by making multi-piston calipers.

Default keep in mind

their drive was a presumably pre-production euro spec in Spain.

i'm surprised by the torque, as the numbers just aren't that strong. also the handling, as the weight is up.

but, sounds like this could be one awesome M3. of course, need to wait on other road tests and real world feedback.

Motor Trend is worse writing. But, you're right, C&amp;D photo quality and layout is pretty sloppy by todays standards.

i am sure the new M3 will look much better in person than photos. i'm starting to warm up to it a little. still don't like the lower front and rear treatment though. a bit too boy racer.

Default I still can't get over the coupe vs sedan comparo...

and the RWD vs AWD. In general, they really shouldn't be compared IMO.

Default lets NOT start making excuses

this is the new M3, and the RS4 is not immune to a natural comparison just because of 4 doors and AWD. that's Audi's choice in the RS model. so be it.
