Default Paging Sparkhill: You guessed it, ANOTHER lighting question!

I've read most of your posts regarding lighting and bulb replacement. All very <i>enlightening</i> (had to!) They saved me heaps of time trying to figure out a few things on my own and even sent me back under the hood when I gave up on reaching and removing the parking light bulbs.

Like most people, I find all of the orange on the front of these cars revolting. For the time being I will try to get over it, but I thought at least recoding to "Euro parking lights" might help. I downloaded your VAG-COM.pdf file so I have the following coding:

Address 09 - Central Electronics
1023 default
1021 enables high beam/fog, Euro parking lights (amber only when blinking)

My question is did you recode your car to "Euro parking lights" and what effects did it have?

Thanks,
Tony

Default Yes

I went with the Euro lights coding, resulting in the amber lights being illuminated only when the blinker was flashing. It also allows the fogs to remain on with both the high and low beams instead of with the lows only.

If your starting code is not 1023, subtracting 2 from whatever is there should get you to the Euro coding.

Default Amber lights being illuminated only when the blinker was flashing

Thanks for the quick response!
Very illuminating!

Does this mean that the ambers are off when you have the switch in any position (auto/parking/on) except off?

I don't use the fog lights a ton, but that is also a nice option.

Default That looks WAY better!

Thanks a ton, Sparkhill!

The <a href="http://piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-Miniature.html">PIAA 168 wedge bulbs</a> as parking light bulb replacements work great to get rid of that dull yellow hue as well. I left them on for quite a while and so far they don't seem to generate any more heat than the stock bulbs.

Be really careful.... lots of people have melted housings. I would go with stock bulb.
