Default Please weigh in...Hartmann vs. tirerack winter packages...

I am in Baltimore, and bad weather is rapidly approaching. I am torn between the Hartmann replica 18" with M3's package ($1900 without TPMS sensors), and the Tirerack 18" Italia set with M3's ($1300 with TPMS sensors). I love my wheels and would prefer replicas, but $600 difference is a fair amount of cash for a winter set. What say ye...

Thanks

Default I'd go with the wheel that was easy to clean and would resist the gravel and nicks that occur in

winter driving

Default Read this before deciding

It is my understanding that the 3D's are Dunlop's replacement for the M3's so they may be worth a serious look. I have M3's and know that they are good. The 3D's sound to be every bit as good, perhaps better. I probably would have given them a try had they been available when I ordered my snow tires.

Link to comments on Hartmann wheels

Default Just put Dunlop 3Ds on the wife's 325 BMW

So far it's a very nice tire. Very little tire noise or tramlining. Haven't had a snow day, so I can't speak to it's abilities in that regard.

Have you considered picking up a set of used S4 wheels?

Default Your numbers look wrong

The tirerack package is just under $1300 WITHOUT the TPMS sensors. Add the OE TPMS and it's another $268.

I don't like the looks of the AT Italias (never have), but the alternative wasn't an option for me because keeping those reps clean in the winter slop would be a nightmare.

Default The tires are on route...due this thursday

19" replicas with Dunlop 3Ds.. I'll let you know how they look, but again, with the spacers and shipping, when all was said and done, I would have gone with the stock rims....I think I spent almost 3k with tires, rims, spacers and shipping.........

Default I'm sure you will be happy with your set-up.

I just wanted to make sure RS4ever knew about your post before he made his decision. Your post was very helpful.

Default I went with the Hartmann 172 RS6 Replica wheels.

This wheel is a replica of the standard OE wheel that comes on the RS4 in Europe. It is available in 8.5 x 18 plus being a 5 spoke design it is very easy to clean and it looks proper on the car. I went with the Dunlop 255/40 x VR18 M3s since the 3Ds aren't available in this size. Hartmann also supplied 3mm spacers which are required for this fitment and an Audi center cap both at no charge. So the cost for this setup was $255/wheel and $216 /tire from Tire Rack. Total $1,884 plus shipping, mount, and balance. I chose not to do the TPMS on these since the cost nearly paid for a VAG, so I just turned it off for the winter.

We had 14" of snow last Friday and these tires are great.
