it was
the "douche bag" reference that i took some offense to...when people were only half serious in ribbing Gary. i think all is well now, and appreciate your comments.
these things are never as bad they seem, mostly just banter back and forth with maybe a little sarcasm thrown in. makes it a little less boring if nothing else.
i never take it truly personally and don't hold grudges. it would be kind of silly internet-wise.

So tell me, what exact circuit in your ECU failed with it's switching to "earth"?
You are right, some circuits are switched to ground. In some, both legs of the circuit are controlled by the ECU. However, most circuits are switched to power, which reduces the number of wires in the wiring harness.

As far as I know
You're the only one who has had an ECU problem with the RS4. The ecu used is a Bosch MED9. There are two, a master and a slave on our car, to control each engine bank. There's nothing really that special about it, except for it's ability to control direct injection, which requires some additional control software and control outputs. Otherwise, it similar to all other Bosch ECUs.
It would be interesting to know what the exact diagnosis was, and what fault code(s) occurred, which led your technician to decide that the ECU was bad.

LOL
that was pretty good.
was just trying to let you know that this thread quited down awhile ago, and now you're trying to let all this puzzling ECU stuff loose again.
there was something wrong causing it to ground out. doesn't matter the terminology used or what casued it to ground, that was the problem.
in any event, i think Gary has already received his answer from Audi.
where were you for a week, touring the Motul factory?

Driving to Virginia to pick up my Dad, and then to Florida for a family function
3300 miles in 7 days and 100+ road temperatures. Ugggg!
I did get to drive the Tail of the Dragon on the way back. Dad (86 years old) loved it. But I was only able to push hard on a few corners. I didn't want to kill him!
