Default RS4 / S4 / M3

It seems that most people on this forum agree that the new M3 will be targeting the RS4 in terms of performance/handling/etc. However, isnt the RS4 going to be a limited production run (2 yrs?). If so, in 2yrs Audi wont have any new cars in its stable to compete directly against the M3, unless they are planning on really improving the upcoming B8S4. Any idea on how Audi plans on competing in this market once the RS4 production run ends? With other mfrs entering / improving in this segment as well (Lexus, Merc, etc), will Audi have an answer?

Default S4 will always be as good as M3 with 4 wheel drive

RS4 is the showoff model if you need to compare it should be compared with M3 CSL. I think S4 will always be the direct competition to M3.

Default We'll have the S5 soon, and possibly an RS5 is in the cards within a couple of years?

Although the A5 Coupe will be a higher end model than BMW's 3 series. Apparently it will be using the B8 platform though.

Good point. Buyers will continue to have some very nice choices out there.

Default BMW doesn't have any cars that compete with the RS4 *now*, so we're even.

that's just how the production cycles have worked out.

Besides that, the M3 isn't really in the same class as the S4 or RS4....2-door RWD coupe vs. 4-door AWD sedan. If BMW builds a 4-door M3 with AWD, then we have a valid comparison. People should be comparing the M3 to the 911.

I don't think the B8 S4 will be able to compete with the new M3. It takes a B7 RS4 or B8 RS4/RS5

I disagree too. Incorrect assessment.

Default Some ppl may cross shop those, but RS4 is the only 4-door mid size sport sedan (M5 is too big)

At least that I would consider.

That means I'm leaving out Mercs cuz of their poor quality/reliability and leaving out Caddys for the same reason.
