Default service/maintenance?

Checking out available options, btwn a5/s5/rs4 whatever else might be interesting. Just wondering what kind of maintenance costs i should be looking at for an rs4. seems the least likely of the bunch for me to get since they are still pretty rare and prices arent falling quickly enough, but regardless of the changing bodystyle, it's a ridiculous car (in a good way).

Default Only if you are a horrible driver will your brakes go in 20K

Or if you do hill climbs and mountain runs to get to a track day every weekend then I can see brakes going that soon. But just to say brakes go at 20K is a bunch of crap.

Default Maintenance isn't that bad compared to those you mention.

The tires that come on the car are hi-performance and they only last 15-20K if you're lucky and they are a bit pricey. There are a few all season tires that are less expensive out there but you'll be loosing a bit of performance.

Oil changes, filters and stuff are all the same compared to the ones you mentioned but there's 8 spark plugs and more oil in the RS4 engine so that what raises the price of maintenance a little.

Service intervals are pretty much all the same. The newer Audi V8's don't have but one belt around the alternator that gets changed out at some interval. They also don't have timing or serpentine belts to worry about. That might actually save on over all maintenance cost.

Brakes are pricy. 400-500 per rotor and pads are about $300-400 for all 4 corners.

Check out the ECS tuning web site to get some idea of how munch maintenance is on various things.

Default There have been quite a few postings here of needing pads/rotors in under 20K

and much less for those who track the car.

So you just dissed a few folks here

Default Don't mean to have "dissed" any one... but 20K and the car needs a brakes there's a problem there.

The 00-02 S4 guys were the same way.

I had about a doz mountain runs and some spirited drives before my 2000 S4 needed brakes at 110K.

The RS4 I traded in had 25K on the ticker and the brakes looked great. It had thick pads with some scoring on the rotors.

I wonder if there are multiple manufactures of brake pads and one is crappier than the rest.

Default Interesting info about the timing belt

I did not know that! How is it that they are designed without any timing or serpentine belt?
Thx.

wow rotors too at 20k? a couple grand every 20K just for brakes and rotors not to mention tires might be a bit much for me, but then again im not going to be flogging the car around that much.

Default Brakes boil at track

I have to say I have gotten soft brakes at almost every track event I've been to...which I do attribute to my overzealous braking..but still!! And I asked the dealer if they could put in synthetic brake fluid, as I had in my C4S, and they said it would void the warranty so I didn't do it. I am getting my 25K check up on May 31 so it should be interesting to see what the brakes look like. I've been to 3 track events since I bought the car...Pueblo, Miller Motorsports and the Golden State Police Track.
