It's amazing that they used 3 drivers to get their results, seems to almost immediately kill off the veracity of such a test. The variable in drivers being the biggest of all, how could they seriously carry out such a test?
This is why the ring numbers from that german mag are at least a reasonable facsimile of these car's best case scenarios.
Anyway, the article had real chutzpa in how it downplayed the RS4's handling, saying that it was an understeering beast. I don't think they even used such harsh language on the S4s they've reviewed, and nearly to a man every other review in the world has commented on how the RS4 has removed the understeer in comparison to any other car in its history, R8 not withstanding.
It was amusing to read how they almost live in an alternate world when it comes to this car and reinforces what I thought when they originally gave this car it's only cover page coverage, *prior* to it being released even to Europe. I don't think they would *ever* do that for a BMW M car.

The worst thing is, that car and driver is a pretty widely distributed magazine
and when those less experienced car buyers / enthusiasts pick up a copy, they'll simply be getting brainwashed by some shady reporting.

Understeering beast == Tires not inflated properly
When you look at the "rules" they used, they never state which of the 3 drivers drove which of the cars. They also inflated all tires to manufacturer recommended pressure. This pretty much insures the the RS4 tires where overinflated for track use by a a good 6-8 psi. Do you think if the front tires are sliding out, there might be just a little bit more understeer?
Once the pressures are correct for the track, the understeer is there, but much less severe

2nd...even my decently modified B5 A4 has "special needs" to squeeze the most out of the car
It's a totally different driving style to extract 100% out of our cars when compared to FWD and RWD cars. 'nuff said...PERIOD!
