Which tire would you want for this situation...
Here are the settings: daytime, 48 degrees (F), and it's raining pretty hard. Would you rather have 1)the factory performance summer tires, 2)all-season tires, or 3) winter snow tires (like M3's)? Now let's add a twist...in about 150 miles or so your final destination is in the mountains to do some afternoon skiing. Do you still want the same tires or something else?

Snows
The ultimate COMPROMISE tire (defined as a tire that excells at nothing and does everything else half-assed) is the all-season. Personally, I wouldn't own an all-season tire. I'd go with a dedicated winter snow tire like the M3. Fanstastic wet traction and snow/ice tire, yet excellent dry performance at 48 degrees too with a soft, comfortable ride to boot.

UHP All season
Several companies make UHP All Season tires.
Goodyear, for example, has the Eagle F1 All Season, good for all conditions...but not the best choice for track tires.
And they DO make a 255/35/19. Price is VERY competitive, too.
The PS2's that came on my RS4 work fine in all conditions...except light snow.
