Default What Do You Think? - 2007 Misano Red, 16K Miles, $51,600

It's at Nalley Audi in Roswell, GA. Was on eBay with $47,900 opening bid (down from $51,900), but has a $99,000 reserve as it turns out. In other words, they don't really want to sell through eBay, just advertize.

Car was sold new by this dealer, serviced there and traded back in, I believe for a 2008 RS4.

Owner is supposedly one of their best customers... drove the pace car at Road Atlanta, is a collector, very meticulous, yadda, yadda, yadda. Typical salesman BS.

However, the very large pictures on the website are gorgeous. It's been through the Audi 300 point check for CPO, but that would be $1900 extra. Standard warranty runs through 12-22-2010.

Only thing I don't like is the Aluminum Beltline Trim, but I could live with it since it's a nice compliment on a red car.

Carfax looks normal, VIN ends in 4548... so are there really over 4000 cars between this RS4 sold in Dec '06 and the Avus Silver one I'm also looking at in Portland, OR that is VIN 272, which was sold in Aug '06? Seems a bit far-fetched.

The Misano Red RS4 would end up costing about $3,000 more than the Avus Silver car due to price and shipping.

Even with the shipping (my estimate is $1500 for closed transporter) I would still save about $10,000 compared to a new one, although the car is a 2007 with 16K miles and two years warranty vs essentially no miles and four years warranty. That's the tradeoff I'm struggling with.

I currently have a deposit on the Misano Red car and will need to decide ASAP whether to follow through.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

Default First quick look says...

I'd offer 52K and they'll probably accept. If the carfax is clean, should be ok. Don't believe anything the salesman says however as you probably already know. That price is in line with the mileage but you may want to try a bit lower and leave them to think about it. Give them the buyers sob story about how far you are, how much it costs to ship, you can't see it in person...etc etc.

Remember these cars are moving like molasses up a hill in the middle of winter, you my friend, are in the drivers seat this time.
Good luck, nice ride!

I dont think the numbers are sequential, skips around a bit.

Hey Tom, I live in Roswell, GA. Bought my 2003 A4 new from Nally. I use them for service on both cars.

If you need a real set of eyes to look the car over, let me know.

Default VIN Numbers are non-sequential

Click my sig for more VIN information. I have the first 18 months of US production listed in the VIN Registry. There is also a FAQ link that leads to information on decoding the VIN.

The only caveat on a car traded-in for a newer RS4 is there MAY have been issues with the first car. Some here love the RS4 and have traded in a two year-old car (cars were first delivered 06/06) for a brand-new one. Others have traded in their problem cars for new ones. Get a service history.

Here are a few that ahve passed through auction recently:
09/17/08 ATLANTA Lease $48,500 13,255 Below GRAY 8G 6 Yes
09/11/08 RIVRSIDE Lease $51,000 8,863 Above BLACK 8G 6 Yes
08/14/08 AWS Regular $49,500 22,248 Avg Black 8G 3 Yes
08/07/08 MANHEIM Regular $51,250 10,431 Above BLACK 8G 6 Yes
08/05/08 ARENA Lease $51,200 21,724 Above GREY 8G 6 Yes
07/25/08 MANHEIM Regular $51,300 14,448 Above Charcoal 8G Yes

It seems like prices have stabilized a little but keep in mind people have purchased new 2008's in the very low 60's recently.

Default FWIW, Nalley is a great dealership for service. From what I've heard from others, they typically

aren't willing to "play ball" in terms of pricing (at least compared to the other 3 dealers in Atlanta).

Also, that car has been in their showroom for a few weeks now, for whatever that is worth. I saw it a few weeks ago and it is in great shape. Pictures don't do the brushed Aluminum trim justice, but I still like the CF trim better.

Default I saw your VIN registery... good stuff!

The Carfax doesn't show anything out of the ordinary that would imply this car had issues. It just shows when sold, registered, first service, registration renewed and offered for sale and another servicing. Only two services are indicated: one at 4765 and one around 16000, which sounds like maintenance by the book. I will see if I can get more information.

Re: new cars. I can buy a new Misano Red/Carbon with Audi Care for $62,370 or maybe even a bit less depending how much they want to move the car. Like I said, that would be about $10K more than this 2007. Worth it or not? Don't know, I just know it's $10K I'd rather not spend. Then again, a new car is a new car :-)

A personal evaluation would be most helpful as I'm a looong way away!

Default I would get the 2008...

Lease rates/financing rates will be better on a new car (if you plan to use them). You will have two extra years of warranty. One less year less depreciation. No need to worry about the new cars condition. And, the satisfaction of a brand new car is hard to match.

I would offer $60K (and accept $61K delivered to your door) on the 2008 and tell them you will do the deal today. Of course, it easy for me to spend your money.
