What is the latest consensus (if any) on Revo settings?
I STFA'd and found lots of threads discussing if the flash is worth the money or not but nothing on actual Throttle/Timing/Fuel settings. What have you Revo users been running please?

The benefits are minimal - there's not alot that can be changed - EDITED -
The stock timing maps are already optimal - so much so that even with 95 octane the ECU will still retard timing by 3-5 degrees. The stock air-fuel ratio targets are also very good. The target appears to be 12:1 or so and the ECU is always in closed loop. The dual ECU set up (intended for processing speed at 8000+ RPM) ensures very accurate air-fuel ratios. So for WOT (wide open throttle) settings, there's not much that can be done. A reflash may alter transient response, but that's hard to quantify. The only comparitive dyno pulls (that I can find in this forum)show a 12hp improvement from a Revo tune at the wheels. Fifty percent of this "improvement" can be achieved by resetting a stock ECU, thus clearing its timing retardation history. For reflashes, if you had a turbo car with dismal wastegate duty cycles, extremely safe timing and boost levels - a reflash can make a huge difference (30-40 hp). On a naturally aspirated engine that already makes 100hp/liter, a reflash can only make a minimal improvement. Until I see hard evidence with a data log showing timing, and AFR along with an obvious HP gain, I'll save my money. -EDIT- on the plus side, if you have high octane (unleaded) fuel you can use for track days, the stock ECU will adapt more or less instantly and the high RPM improvement is very noticable.

Can this 'resetting of the factory ECU' be done without a VAGCOM?
As for gains, personally, I'm noticing better engine response, a more aggressive exhaust note, and the car pulls more evenly through the rpm range.
Oh, and my GPS clocked 270+ km/h and if it wasn't for a TT that got in my way, i'm sure I could have hit 290 as I had another 1500 rpm to go

Yes, disconnect the battery for > 30 minutes.
Be prepared to reset radio settings, seat memory, Key/all windows down feature, etc.

That is primarily what we highlight when speaking about the benefits of the flash.
Quantitative increases in performance are going to vary by application and in the grand scheme of things are going to be subtle. The biggest factor in the flash is an overall improvement in driveability. Yes, this is a subjective assertion but to date, we haven't had anyone come back to us saying they were not pleased with the results.
