Why don't any auto companies design OEM wheels with a lip?

Why don't any auto companies design OEM wheels with a lip?
I've had high end BMW's, Porsche, and Audi, and none had even as much as a 1/4" lip. Mercedes comes close with AMG wheels, but not a true lip. I really think having that lip on the wheel really sets it off.

What are you talking about?
This was the 3-piece OEM wheel that came with my 330Ci. I'd say it's got a lip.
