'Wierd' momentary idling upon going from gear down to neutral
I've noticed something over the last couple of months and just checking if all is normal. No fault codes through VAG COM reader, dealer checked everything when car was in for latest DRC replacement, and claims all is normal (the usual reply: "they all do it").
Anyhow, I've noticed when I am in gear and say instead of downshifting I go into neutral (not the way I normally drive, but...), or a more relevant example, say in first already and about to stop on a red light and shift into neutral, my RPMs drop down to the 800ish range, but then oscilate for a moment to 1,200RPM and back to 800. Sometimes if I stay still for say a minute on a red light, the needle may oscilate bewteen 800-1000 RPMs, up and down (not abruptly, but just slowly toggle up and down).
Is this indeed normal? Not sure if it has to do with the cooler weather over the last few months or what. There are no misfires or hesitation, car pulls like a freight train and nothing else seems out of ordinary. Thoughts?

I've noticed this and I believe I know why it does this.
Next time you notice it doing this, stop immidiately (you'll likely be rolling at an intersection like you said anyway)- the idle should drop down to normal (~800 rpm). Then, the next time you notice it, don't stop- keep rolling. The idle should remain high (~1200?). Therefore, I believe the computer does this intentionally to enable easier gear re-engagement.
Convienience feature, intentional is my verdict.
