Default Would the RS4 benefit from a properly designed rear spoiler?

Many of the RS4 test drives and reviews have noted that at high speed, the RS4 rear end feels a bit loose. Mind you, these aren't speeds we see every day, but for those times when one is so inclined to push the car, you want maximum control.

I remember back also when the TT first came out, it to suffered from a little high speed rear end "looseness" that was remedied by a properly designed rear spoiler.

Would such a device work on the RS4?

Default I think a Gurney Flap and a properly engineered rear diffuser would provide the desired effect...

The former is easy and cheap to produce, where as the diffuser will be a few grand.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what exactly is a Gurney Flap?

Default Small nearly verticle lip extention...

Think E46 M3, 997 GT3/RS. Small but induces a good amount of drag.

Are you going to have a CF rear diffuser?

Default keep in mind, diffusers only work when they are REALLY close to the ground

They sure do look cool though

Default I had something a little more subtle in mind.....

While the wing on the Champion car is probably quite a functional piece, would you want to be seen driving around in public with that thing on your car? Didn't think so. Neither would I.

The piece here is subtle enough for my tastes. The question is if it would in fact do anything, or is it just a useless cosmetic piece. Also, if it could be adapted to the RS4 trunk.

Default The rear end gyration can be cured with coilovers or swaybars. Completely killed...

that problem on my S4 and I picked up on that problem right away when i got it. IT was much more of a problem than on my A4 for some reason. It appears suspension related rather than aerodynamics as the A4 and S4 and pretty much RS4 for that matter have very similar aerodynamics. Additionally it is not as though the rear gets completely light but rather there is an odd gyration before it settles back down. I suspect if anything it could use front air dams to help eliminate understeer.

I wouldn't want to be seen driving around with that Caractere piece, either.
