zOMG! OIL CONSUMPTION!!!!...

No, I don't...surprised you say that...you have to
stop twice in 300 miles for a low oil situation, and I'm trying to "stir up ****?" I don't think so.
Sorry if I read your odometer wrong in that picture. Whose trying to miff you?
Oil pressure is not always directly related to oil level, by the way.
And really, I can't believe they added a low oil light to aid with break-in, lol.

that's in SoCal! i actually had it read 126 in PHX. obviously, that's not the ambient temperature...
...but i bet the heat coming off the road surface is at least that high.

1 qt in the first 1200 miles sounds about right
I've got 1700 on the clock and have gone through a quart. I'll be heading down the coast this weekend and put another 1K on her, but before I do, I'll be changing out the factory swill, and all the break-in metals, for Elf Excellium LDX 5W40, which is a very nice synthetic. It is supposed to have low volatility and low shear, which will reduce consumption, but we'll see. I'm going to start oil testing with the first change.
From what I've gathered in my wanderings, Mobil 0W40 will probably have higher consumption than high quality 5W40 oils, due to viscocity shearing under stress and higher volatility, due to the lower weight formulation. If you live in an area with extreme winter conditions, then a change to 0W40 oil would be recommended at the onset of winter. Otherwise, the standard Audi recommended 5W40 weight is the one to stay with.
Castro Syntec 5w40 oil is not bad, but there are better European oils around that have lower volatility and lower shear. The following oils have very nice characteristics, and can be ordered on-line:
Elf Excellium LDX 5w-40
Lubromoly 5W-40
Pentosin 5W-40
Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W-40
If you need a 0W40 oil then Motul 8100 E-Tech 0W-40 is probably one of the best there is.
A few places to order these oils on-line are:

stop twice in 300 miles for a low oil situation [...]
twice, because i didn't fill it up enough the 1st time it came on, since i couldn't read the stick so well in the heat and blinding light. i'm a pvssy.
Whose trying to miff you?
not between you and me personally. sorry if i gave that impression. just saying that the recent alarmism over this car is not freaking me out.
Oil pressure is not always directly related to oil level, by the way.
And really, I can't believe they added a low oil light to aid with break-in, lol.
no, they are not identical, but related. 1st stage (yellow) means low (minimum of dipstick). 2nd stage (red) means low oil pressure. what is the main cause of low oil pressure? not enough oil.
i don't think it was added specifically for break-in, although that is when it is most helpful - at the time when oil consumption is highest. this initial warning is more sensitive than any car i've had before. i've never seen a warning for being "down a quart" before, which it turns out is what i was. actually a bit less than that.
bottom line: this car is burning oil exactly at the rate that it says in the manual. the manual states that it is normal to burn 1/2 quart per 600 miles, especially during first 3000 miles.
so what is all the concern about?
