Default 6 speed or paddles

I am thinking of replacing my A6 2.7t 6 speed with an S4 later this year. I would consider the new A6 but can't imagine living with an automatic - in this case a tip. Do the paddles offer a true manual "no-clutch" driving experience providing great driver control or is the traditional 6 speed the way to go? My wife has a MB with Touch Shift, but that unit overrides the driver's gear selection and is very slow to respond. I'm looking for a true clutchless experience if I make the switch from a 6 speed. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Audi's tip is the most "true" clutchless experience in an auto -- but no replacement for a 6-sp!!

Default 2nd.. The S4 auto is an amazing tranny.. in "S" it's pulls like a ****!! I was...

torn when I bought my car.. I'm stuck in traffic every day going to work.. I wanted to be able to sip a coffe and drive.. hence I went w/ an auto.. I also have a 68 dart GTS convertible that's a manual, so I get my speed kicks w/ that car..

Default What FastMarkA says is true.

I got the Tip because I didn't think I wanted to pay a 1700 gas guzzler tax.
I wished I had now.

The Tip drives great and I love it when I'm stuck in traffic.
But the other 70% of the time I wished I had the manual tranny again.

When I get the RS4, I don't care what the GG tax is for a manual, I'm going back to 'use the Force'....

But the Tips fun for now....

Default very debatable ... SMG II is impressive

I have not driven the Audi tip, but the SMG in BMW is impressive. That being said... no matter how good these "clutchless autos" get I will still prefer a true manual transmission. There is simply no substitute IMO.

isn't the tip marked up to adjust for the gas guzzler tax?

Default SMG II is not really an automatic transmission

It's a robotized manual transmission, mechanically it is vastly different from the Tiptronic.

Default A question for you Kujo...

Why the hell didn't your Patriots take mercy on my Steelers?!?! That was a painful game for me to watch. It was over within minutes. You simply cannot make mistakes against the Patriots. Good luck in the Superbowl. It should be a good game. I think the Eagles defense will challenge Brady a bit more than the Steelers did. Brady had too much time to pick apart the defense. I hope J. Johnson comes up with a better defensive plan. I am hoping for a close, interesting game. All that being said... I think the Patriots are simply too good to lose it.
