Default Almost a repost..but guys, found the best solution to the oil extractor!! 10 Quarts for $54.95!!!

I emailed ECS tuning yesterday, and they updated my shopping cart with the oil filter, plugs, and the extractor I needed. It'll be close (9.46 liters/10 quarts) but it's worth trying it out to save the 40 bucks on the pela 14 liter one; and it's cheaper than the popular griots 6.5 liter (~$65)

Default A few first timer questions about oil change/extractor

Well this has inspired me to try and do my own oil changes now considering I am at 20k and need another intermediate service between warranty covered changes. The last time I was charged $190 to do the 10k change....Anyways, what exactly would the step by step procedure be for doing the change with the extractor? Where exactly do you extract from? Sia, if you could do a simple write up with some pics, that would be awsome. I realize these questions may sound stupid, but this is the first I will be doing and want to do it right. Will the extractor get possible sediment at the bottom or would a bottom drain procedure work better? TIA

Default Sure. Apparently it's cake. You put the tubing down where the dipstick goes...

pump a few times (per the instructions that come with the extractor) and suck out the oil.

Do it when the car is warm, so it's more viscous and sediments are more likely to come out with the oil.

Then change the filter, which is located at the top of the engine bay, near the V8 logo in the back (haven't looked yet, but that's where it's supposed to be).

Then put in new oil.

I will search the archives on here to see if anyone has posted pics, etc...but it's so simple (apparently) I don't think anyone has.

Default Nice find, should be perfect..FYI..oil extractors don't get all 10qts..a little stays behind

Just put the hose down the dipstick hole, TAKE OFF the oil filler cap (to allow air in)..a few pumps of the handle and sit back counting the money you just saved.
Some oil remains in the pan so it's a good idea to use the drain plug every 2nd or 3rd change.

Pay attention to how much you put back in, I start at 9qts then add as I check the level.
With 10 qts it's easy to get distracted and lose count if the girls are around.

Bergey was telling me he got more than when he let it drain, not sure how, but that's his statement.

Default Maybe there was more oil in my car to begin with, but I think the oil extractor got it all out.

I don't see how the extractor could leave much of anything behind. The tube goes to the bottom of the drain pan. When it was done getting the oil out, I forced the tube in a little further and was able to pump out a little bit more oil. I definitely got all 10 quarts out that the manual claims the car takes.
