Default anyone disappointed in their new S4?

It is hard to tell what the overall opinion of the new S4 is. I haven't heard very many complaints, but the 'WOWs' don't seem anything like the response to the B5 in late 1999.

I just sold my 2000 S4 to make room for a 2004 S4 and parting with that car may have been the toughest thing I have ever done (as far as material things go).

I know there are not many 2004's in the states yet, but I very anxious to hear more B5 vs. B6 opinions. . . Is the 2004 S4 going to make me forget about my 2000 S4 or am I going to be wishing I would have kept her. .

What do you guys think?

Default You won't be sorry, I traded an '02 S4 Avant...

and I find that the 2004 (keeping in mind the 2002 was chipped) has exciting power, better sound, better seats, better handling, solid body structure, memory seats, better sound system, better shifting and on and on. The only down so far is gas mileage.

We had a 2000 S4 Sedan Black/Black sitting next to the 2004 Black/black here last week. It was quite a striking difference. The old car looked, well...old. -Pete

Default Re gas mileage; I found that after 4-5K miles the mileage improves considerably.

When a car is new to you you are constantly "testing" it therefore you are pushing it harder than you will in the future.

Default Re: anyone disappointed in their new S4?

I am turning in my 00 A6 2.7T today as a matter of fact. Before getting my 04 S4 on Saturday, I was having similar doubts. My A6 was the best Audi I've ever owned (it was my fourth) and if the buy out was closer to market pricing and if I didn't have doubts about maintenance costs, I would have bought it. It gave me 40 months of satisfaction and trouble free driving...and was my "ride" at three high performance driving schools.

As good as the A6 was for me, I have found something better in the new S4...way better as a matter of fact. While I am not giving up a B5 S4, I can speak from experience that the powertrain set up in the new S4 is much more refined than what was in the B5 S4 and the C5 A6 2.7T.

Don't look back...you are going to love your new S4!!

Default Not me!

I've had 8 previous Audi quattros, dating back to 1986. My new Avant is #9.

When the S4 arrived in the fall of '99, the transition to that car was from a 1.8 or 2.8 A4. Compared to those cars, the S4 and its power was a HUGE wow! Now, however, a lot of us are going from the B5 S4 to the new S4. It's a big improvement, at least in my view. But it is not the huge leap that we had when the first S4s arrived.

That's not to fault Audi in the slightest, it's just a realization that as the bar gets raised higher, subsequent improvements become more incremental.

I've only had my B6 S4 Avant for 48 hours, so it's not broken in yet and I only have about 250 miles. I can tell, however, that I like it now and I'll like it better as it breaks in.

As others have commented, the only downside I've found to the new model is gas mileage. It will improve as the engine breaks in, but it will never be as economical as the previous S4. I knew that already when I bought the car.

I went from a stock '00 S4 to a stock '01 S4 to the new (stock) B6 S4. I don't know what you've done, if anything, to your present car. If it's already up to 300 hp or more, you may not feel as much of a difference in the new one. But for me, it's definitely more powerful and I love it.

Will it make you forget your present car? Sorry, I don't have a crystal ball.

Default Not me, I hit 140 this weekend..

MPG of course for a nanosecond going downhill. It felt really good. On a serious note, I did hit 120mph on the interstate and it still had instant torque at that speed, and the exhaust sounded great, maybe a little too loud.

Default I for one, am absolutely delighted I traded in my B5 S4 for this.

I personally think that it is a distinct improvement across the board - much nicer to drive on the open roads, better handling all around, the manual transmission is in a whole different league than the older car and the engine is incredible to listen to and drive with. The sound system (with the Infortainment package) is a huge step up from the Bose option in the B5 series car and the seats are to die for. Unless your goal in life soley revolves around drag racing all wheel drive cars and modding them, this car has it beat on most counts.

I can't wait until I can finish the break in miles and let it loose....

Remind me not to buy your used S4 or do you already have it broken in?
