APR trial flash - Initial impression
I'm on the fence on chipping the ride, but since I have a full Milltek exhaust and hyperflow intake, I thought/think a chip would bring out the most.
Anyway, my local guy did a 6-hr APR (93 octane) flash yesterday. I've not had a chance to do any serious driving on it, but right away:
1) smoother, more powerful acceleration, all the way to redline. The upper RPM behavior is the most improved.
2) shifting also seems smoother, as engine behavior between gears is tighter.
3) I wonder if there is not some slight loss of torque in the middle rpm band (~4 - 4.5K)... Not sure about this, just a vague feeling in the midrange.... Maybe I am being biased by what I read on that damn dyno shootout (the first one)
4) already I see a drop in gas mileage, no doubt about it, the guage needle has gained velocity.
Anyway, I plan on getting a trial Revo (and maybe GIAC if they do it) flash as well for comparisons before making a final purchase decision. Unfortunately, no O.CT dealers locally
Anybody else try trial flashes?

I tried the 5 hour Revo trial flash in Cali. 91 octane. Felt no change whatsoever.
I've got TIP, and I tried S mode D mode Manual shift. Low end, high RPM, just could not feel any change at all. And I really wanted to feel more power since it's cheap and probably the simplist mod you can do. I even spoke with the tuner about it, he even rechecked with Revo that he installed the correct program for my ECU#. :-(

You won't feel much in a tip unless you can change the shift points. Tips are not for mod's.
You can notice a big difference in my car with the flash. I am getting 21ft/lbs of torque.

That's a personal opinion vice a statement of fact. Tips are for people who want tips.
BTW - I have the APR 93 program and do find the DBW to more smooth. Also power increase is slightly noticeable across the powerband.

How is it a personal opinion? You just agreed with my statement.
I said "You won't feel much in a tip". You say "power increase is slightly noticeable across the powerband". Maybe i'm just not reading your post correctly.
You won't feel any mod's in a tip the same way a MT will. That is a fact.

I had my chip flashed with APR 91 chip, and the only change was the readline was increased and
top speed limiter was removed (if there was one).
I have the 93 chip from APR and find that the improvement is slight, but noticable. I added the chip before the hyperflow and but after the Milltek Cat Back.
I can't speak for Revo or any other chip as I had an APR in my B5 S4 and felt they had a good product so went with them. Better then stock but expensive for the extra power, but I would do it again.

When the effect wore off was when I felt the difference, Thats when I went back and bought it
but it would have done more for my 2.7T allroad if I would have kept it. D felt like stock S and S was alot better with throttle response, could feel the camms comming into their sweet spots and the top speed limiter was removed.
