Default B6 S4 vs. 2004 M3

I keep hearing alot of angry M3 owners bashing the S4, and i was thinking...i think i should point a few things out. (the things in qoutes are the types of things that THEY say)

"buy an m3, you cant get a fast launch with an s4, AND you cant do donuts "
*Yea an M3 is great for doing donuts.....unless you like doing drifts....which are far cooler looking and more involved. Anyone can do a donut in their crappy mid-80's lincoln towncar...And if you are stupid enough to base your car buying decision on how fast you can go through a set of tires....theres some other issues to talk about. And oh yea...though the awd launch takes more skill to master, if you are good at it, you can walk on a RWD competitor*

"M3 far outhandles the S4"
*The M3 has posted everywhere from .85-.88 on the skidpad, the S4 is a .86-.87. Tie there!! The M3 posts a faster slalom speed yet strangly the S4 outlapped the M3 on a track (AWD anyone?) and the S4 came within about 1 second of the lap time of a Lamborghini Murciealago (spellin?) that ran the track earlier.*

"the S4 cant be modified, no room in the engine bay!!"
*Though the S4 has a tight engine bay, it is a fine platform for modification (already you can get intake/full exhaust/chip, and they are talking about superchargers!!). The much smaller 3.2 liter i-6 in the bimmer comes stock tuned to within an inch of its life. Even the 8 Grand Dinan package (the highest engine performance package they do) adds a whopping 29 hp.......and you have to be at 7900 rpm to access it.....and oh yea...it redlines at 8000....."thats fine" you say "im sure it adds alot of power mid range"....well once again im sorry my freind, it only adds a total of 21 lb/ft or torque, bringing the total to a super duper 282lb/ft....(we get 302lb/ft stock.....not to mention the sound that goes along with it There arent even enough modifications out for the S4 yet to spend 8 thousand on, but with roughly 4 thou (half of dinans price) you can get Downpipes/cats/catback exhaust, new intake, short shifter, and chip. bringing you to around 390-400 hp (no one has all this stuff yet so im not sure) and still have enough left to buy your girlfriend something really nice for neglecting her and spending time on your car....* (Perhaps some Audi logo apparel??

P.S. The audi costs less

AMEN! I test drove both cars and ended up buying the S4 for several reasons:

-There's no replacement for displacement (4.2 V8).
-Much more handsome interior and ergonomics.
-4-doors.
-More refined ride and comfort.
-Subtle enough for people not to know you have 340hp under the hood.
-More bang for your buck.
-Audi AWD and...
-Not as common as a Honda Civic (at least in Silicon Valley, where everyone has an M3).

Default The S4 launches harder and faster then the M3...

RS6.com has videos on the autobahn to prove this. The M3 doesnt pull away until 3rd gear.... so there is their first problem. I wont even go any further then that.

Default If what you're saying were true, the s4 would have better 0-60 times since we hit 60 in second

I've seen videos of what you were describing..pointed this out, but nobody responded. When the m3 finally starts pulling, we should be at 65 at least.

Default exactly...

Thats why I never got the 0-60 times. They did several runs and the audi always pulled till 3rd when the M3 caught up and passed the s for all of third gear then the s started to catch up in 4th etc..

Default Well give me a couple weeks and I'll be racing a m3 cab, although slower

we'll see how it goes. Should be able to take it easily.

Now if I could only get an m3 to race me sometime....
