Car won't start - Fuel Supply Sensor?
I have a 2004 B6 S4, MT, about 118k miles on it. I was away from my car, that drove great on the way there, for about 6 hours. I came back to start it, and it would just crank and crank and would not turn over. Had it towed home and now I'm trying to figure it out and get it back on the road.
Things I checked:
1. Fuse 28 (still good)
2. A few other fuses. (all good)
3. Pulled the fuel supply line (on passenger side at fuel rail) in the front with a bottle - no fuel is pumping.
4. Checked the voltage at the pump itself, using pin 1 and 4 - about 11 volts.
5. Listened for fuel pump (can't hear it)
6. Ohm tested pins 2 and 3 - 0.00 Ohms
7. Ran the VAG-Com
2 Faults Found:
00771 - Fuel Level Sensor (G)
30-10 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent
00438 - Fuel Supply Sensor 2 (G169)
30-10 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent
I've never had any fuel gauge/level issues. Been really consistent actually, and it's reading pretty true now.
My gut says that it's a fuel pump, but I want to be sure that the Fuel Supply Sensor isn't the issue, cutting off my fuel pump. I found a DIY online, but it didn't cover this model exactly - the pin connector had 5 when my has 4.
Had anyone had symptoms like these? Advice?
Thanks for looking.

Might have solved my problem. I Ohm tested pins 1 and 4 on the connector, and it registered about 4.5 Ohms, so the fuel pump is bad.
Scoping a new one out. Do most people replace with the factory unit, or do people use drop-ins like the Bosch 044 (61457) or Walbro?
