CEL caused by Small leak

CEL caused by Small leak
I am throwing a CEL light occasionally and the code is Small leak detected in the Evaporative Emissions System. I have been told it may be a gas cap (which I have not changed yet). Has anyone else had this and knows of the cause? No other CEL or codes are thrown.
