clear-bra/stongard etc. question for you all
I want to get this done for my new avant and I have 2 general questions:
1. for those of you that have it, did you get it done for the rear bumper as well? I figure that's a good idea, but the pre-made kits don't seem to have it....
2. on the first day I got the car (go figure), I got a small rock chip on the front bumper - about 1/2 the size of the head of a tack, so not very big. the dealership is telling me they don't have a nogaro ('04) color mix, or whatever, available yet, so I can't get touch up paint and it might take a couple of months. Other option is to get the paint color matched by a paint specialist, but I'm wondering if this will cost a lot more? Any ideas?
Another option wd be to put the protectant on without touching up the chip (there's no ding, just paint). Bad idea?
TIA.

Your second Q is subjective, but re. your first....
....my S6 template included a bumper strip along the top, but that was all - Clear Bra. Bet they could customize some strips for you if you desired more then that, though.

Re: Yep!
So simple you likely won't do it. But, if you were to go through tracking down paint routine or follow my suggestion and then Stongard I bet you nobody but you could ever tell the difference.
Solution: Go buy a blue sharpie color in the mark and get the plastic film on the car ASAP.
This is exactly what the folks at Stongard did on my BB A6 and you can't find the chips after the film goes on.

I didn't have the rear bumper done, but I might...................
The place that installed mine said they would use a thinker material for the rear bumper then they used on rest of the car b/c of possible bumps when parking etc.
As for you second question, I find it hard to beleive that the dealership can't get you paint yet. This color has been out for years. You don't need the 2004 version. My friend who owns a paint place made up a bottle of touch up for me based on the 2002 model year and it matched perfectly(I had a little nick on the passanger door).
And I would touch up the chip before doing the clear bra.

thinner material, eh?
the way bumpers get chipped and scratched from street parking (I'll try not to do it too often, but...), I'd have thought you'd want the regular thickness on both bumpers. Hmmm.

Thinner in the front b/c that is what everyone really sees. Don't get me wrong the front...........
material is plenty think, but you don't want it to think b/c it might be more noticable. The rear however, I don't think too many people are examining, so thicker is acceptable there.

If you live anywhere where people parallel park like idiots- bumping into you or you use valet park,
then I would suggest getting the rear bumper. It saves the paint from minor scratches.
