Default clutch pregunta

hey guys how is your clutch holding up?

my last car (a6 2.7T) felt like it was too heavy for the 6-speed tranny and clutch, towards the time when i sold it, it seemed to slip a tiny bit in 1st gear under hard acceleration. (it was small enough that i wasnt sure if it was or wasnt slipping)

My freind's my02 M3 is abused daily, but is tough as ***** and his clutch still works fine (i drive it often).

Now i learned stick on a modified dinan m3 (my1999) and i have driven stick daily ever since, so i know my way around it (always rev match downshifts, and i dont engine brake to slow down unless im driving aggresively, launch the car at 1k or lower always)but i worry about this car. So far it has been babied like hell (i dunno how to launch this damn thing, i wish we could just light up the rear tires, would be more forgiving) but i am worried that if i launch hard (3k aggresive slip) i will mess it up. Audi fails miserably in the clutch department in general. how you guys holding up? whats your fav tehnique for launch?

i know i am probabley being too **** about it but i cant stand the thought that you might be losing potential power and fun through a crappy clutch. (not to mention our throttle program that makes it hard to perfectly shift)

Default "might be losing potential power and fun through a crappy clutch..."

If you keep babying it you will never have fun with your car. I used to be real paranoid about clutch wear, but I let go of that a long time ago. I know I've said this before but Imo wear and tear your clutch like your suppose to and enjoy your car. I think if you look at Avram's sig you'll find a link to his launch technique

Default The clutch is a wear item. Audi Advantage covers it.

My B5's clutch was gone at around 40k mi. I thought that was unusually early, but I'm lucky it happend at less than 50k b/c it was replaced free.

My question is, will a 250TT/DSG have to replace *two* clutches at around 50k, or being a pair, will they split the load and last 100k?

I agree that Audi uses really soft clutches, and I personally would like a heavier duty one in there. But I think they do it b/c it delivers less shock to the rest of the system, and that results in everything lasting longer & wearing better. Although its the sort of effect that won't matter until the car's 3rd owner at 150k mi.

I know a guy who had an RS4 clutch put into his A6 2.7t 6sp, and he loved it. Stiffer & heavier than stock, but not ridiculous. I'd love to do it in this car, but don't know if it would fit or what it would cost.

Default I find the clutch holding up very well.

When I took it to the strip, I was launching around 3K. I ran it quite a few times, and the clutch did great.

Still, I wish the clutch had a greater clamping force. Then engine can overpower this clutch in 1st gear if pushed too far.

Default my clutch is bueno so far, but I've never had to replace a clutch in any car I've had.

And, yes, all 8 of them have had manual trans.

DSG uses wet clutches, pretty sure they've got a very long service interval.

Default I'll try a few different methods, and I'm going to make sure that I do a proper cool-down...

before I do the next run. Last time there was NOBODY at the track, and I could just run laps around the strip. 30 secs between runs, not good for the charge air temps. :-D

But it's so damn fun!
