DBW throttle update (Thanks to Jet Jockey)
Hey Everyone,
I owe JetJockey a big one for pointing out an article in Quattro Quarterly (the Audi club mag), about DBW problems. Although I commented already on his post, it was a secondary topic there, so I thought I'd bring it up as a new thread.
To summarize, it says DBW problems identical to what I've described are known to Audi, but they don't know what to do about it yet.
Furthermore, several of the known cases are in fact with automatic transmissions. So, I apologize to those whom I've told my efforts can't help.
Here's a small but significant section from the article (by John Beckus), reprinted b/c it's new info/perspective:
"Audi, like all manufacturers that are using the drive-by-wire systems, are using fuzzy logic. [... Fuzzy logic] is a powerful problem solving methodology. It incorporates an alternative way of thinking for a computer that modelshuman decision making with its ability to work from approximate data and find precise solutions. While this works a good portion of the time, there are just too many variations to the situations people find themselves in when it comes to driving their cars. The computers get confused. In my opinion, a lot of the problems that are being experienced with this drive-by-wire system are software related. Until Audi can update the software in their ECUs [...], and allow this to be done at the dealer level, problems are going to continue."
I will be faxing this to the AoA executive office rep who is handling my case.

I am scheduling a visit with the dealer to address this and several other 'Issues'
Throttle is unpredicatble; Shifting is sometimes hard, even when the car is warm; Breaks squel loudly even when the car is warm and its warm out. Its just not the kinda things I expected from a 55k car (after optioning + GG etc....)

But JD, although some of your issues maybe valid, don't you think the "brake squeal" issue...
is a non-issue. I think that Audi decided on a high performance brake pad compound for this car for better braking and longevity so this in turn would mean a higher use of metallic or composite material been used in the make up of the pads and thus the squealing.

I guess...
however its bad, real bad.... I have driven many cars that are designed to be 'Driven' and they squel but never like this. I have never had any Audi I have owned or driven (including RS6's) that have made this brake sound. If they come back and say its 'Normal' I might call and bitch at audi and get some more money from them to help offset me going to brakes that actually fit this car :-) (ok that last bit was me dreaming of Brembo's)

Thanks, that would be nice. For some odd reason I only got half the cylinders. But Beware if...
I get this beast anywhere close to 300 Hp with the 400 to 500 lbs less than the S4 and the major suspension mods I've got, you might still be ahaed of me in acceleration but on a track watch out baby!

Who cares how loud the brakes are?
You want to hear loud, mount race pads or listen to the Porsche ceramic brakes sometime.
Do they stop the car well? IMHO, that's all that matters...
