Default Drove my friend's SL500 yesterday...

BOY, I love my S4!!!!

His car has 25,000 miles on it and it felt like a rattle trap. The suspension felt loose and as if it wanted to turn when I applied the brakes going in a straight line. Overall, the car felt like a car that had been totalled and rebuilt. This can't be typical for a Benz... can it? It was also slow. 302hp in a 4200lb car with an auto. -sigh- Love my S4...

He asked me how I liked it. I said, "It's NICE." Is that lying? I mean, it looks nice! No doubt. It's pure eye candy. But that's about it.

Default Wow, that is a surprising opinion of the SL500.

I thought the post was going to be in the other direction and praising it.

Default I could agree with what esfo is saying....

Thats a lot of pork to be pushing around with that sort of hp. Style and flair, the benz all the way. Get up and go too? Well pony it up for a SL600 or SL65.

Default I was surprised when I drove it.

I don't know if the car had ever been in an accident. If so, that would explain it.

Default Yea...

He's not a performance car guy. He's the kinda car guy that just has to have something that looks great and has classic style. He has a '61 Corvette with the 230hp, 283ci engine. Beautiful car also.

In that way, our tastes differ. If I were buying in the SL line, I'd get the SL55 or SL65. If I were buying a Corvette of the 60's vintage I'd buy something with a high hp 327 or 427 engine. I would just have to have the horsepower to match the looks.

I can't agree on the rattling but the car seems slow (comparing the butt dyno to a B5 S4).

Default LOL. Cause you didn't. I think you're making it up.

I kid, I kid.

What I meant was the one I've been driving is pretty solid and doesnt seem like a rattle trap.

How many miles on his car? Maybe they fall apart.

BTW, you're car is sweet!

Default I've been told I have a good imagination... :o))

I mentioned in another post that I don't know if the car had been in an accident and if so, then that would explain it. Seemed quite strange that a car with 25k on it would be that loose.

Did you know that Black is fastest? )
