I have been looking to buy a B6. Looking especially for Nogaro with two tone or silver interior. I have heard that series 1 b6s, meaning the earliest of the models, have had serious problems mainly with the transmission. So, my question is two-fold:

1. Is this true?

2. If so, how do I know whether or not a car that I am loking at is from that era? As a matter of fact is there a way to check the build date? and up to which date would be effected?

I would believe that if the used car you are looking at has any mileage on it the problem should have been detected and repaired. BUT Niemals Folgens trans problem didn't surface until way after 10K miles(17k or 18K I think). PLUS there were 1200 engines put into these same cars that Audi knows has a defect bont won't recall or even divulge the VIN#s. Some have neede to be replaced. This bring me to the real issue. DO NOT BUY A USED S4 WITHOUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY!!! If and when you have a problem, it will be covered. Try to find a CPO'd car. BTW, 10/3 and later builds ar OK.
