Default Engine Oil Sensor warning question?

Hello there,
I have a B6 S4 Sedan with 53K miles on it and the engine oil sensor warning just appeared on my dashboard. I just had an oil change done less than 700 miles ago, so I took it to my independent Audi shop and was told they did a diagnostic on the car and the results are the engine oil sensor. They told me they would replace the sensor when they do the next oil change simply because of the location of the sensor. They tried to get the warning signal removed and the computer won't allow my mechanic to do so. My questions are:
Should I have them replaced the sensor even when the engine oil was just replaced? Or is the oil sensor located where I can replace it myself and just buy the part?
I appreciate your comments.
Best,

Best,
I will assume you are talking about the oil level sensor,
if that is the case you need to drain all the oil to change it as it sits at the bottom of the oil pan, give it a couple of days and may clear by it self, otherwise is up to you to do it now or wait till next oil change

Thanks for the useful information.
I decided to wait until I do the next oil change in about 1400 miles and we'll take care of it.

Do you know if this is a common issue (Oil Level Sensor Failing) with S4's or Audis at all?
Thanks.

My oil level sensor stopped working 6 months ago. It didn't trigger a warning light on the dash that it was broken, but it stopped telling me that my oil level was low, which happens every 1200 miles in my 06 s4. So I bought a new oil level sensor from europaparts.com for $55 and installed it. Immediately I got a oil level sensor warning light, letting me know there was a problem with the sensor (which is funny, because the original sensor failed to accurately report the oil level, yet didn't trigger a warning light...). Anyway, i checked all the fuses on the panel, reset the ECU, unplugged the battery, checked the wiring. Couldn't make the light stay away, and the problem seemed to be with the sensor. So I called europaparts, told them i suspected the sensor was bad and that I needed another one. The told me the sensors are almost never bad. I said I'd buy another one, and if the problem went away, I'd return the first one. They agreed. The second sensor (genuine audi) didn't solve the problem. So I took it to the dealer. Audi said the sensor was bad. I said I had tried 2 genuine audi sensors, and the problem remained. After further investigation, they said the part I had installed on the car ended in 'B' and the car requires one that ends in 'C'. So they installed it and now the car is reported to be OK. I haven't picked it up yet, but I assume it is OK. Called europaparts and told them the part(s) they sold me and that I installed were problematic and i asked for a refund, and they said that they have sold almost 100 sensors and they have been installed on other B7 S4's without problems, and that they suspected the dealer is lying to me. I personally don't suspect the dealer was lying to me, but am a bit confused.

Now, I have $480 in parts/diagnosis/tax charges from the dealer, $110 in parts charges from europaparts, and my own labor changing the sensor twice and checking every fuse and cleaning the wire connected first with brake cleaner and then a second time with electrical parts cleaner..

And I thank whomever posted the correct part number on that genuine audi website. indeed it is the correct part number. But i could not for the life of me find that through a general search on that exact site. Without someone providing the part number for me, i'd be stuck.

ps.. here is the part i bought that does NOT work on my particular b7 S4

Default part change in my 03

sorry to read of the screw up by the parts huse. Their mistake. there was a part change in 2003. up to 2002 ends in b. 2003 on ends in c. sounds like they sold you a b. some of the aftermarlet parts places STILL do NOT show the MY change. Pelican does.
It's not common but not a rare sensor failure.. starts as interminent. easy fix when oil is drained on an allroad. no rush. wait till the next OCI. keep checking the oil, but you do that any way.
