excuse my ignorance, what is the deal with the center console?
I am sure this has been covered, but during a test drive my knee was killing me when driving an A4. And why does the stack tilt towards the passenger?
I am concerned about buying an S4 and living with the knee rub.

It bothers some and not others, it seems. I think somebody...
on the A4 forum sold his B6 A4 to get back into a B5 A4 because he didn't like the center console.
I've been looking for an A4 to rent in the LA area for a while now... I want to rent the car for a week to see if the center console will be a problem for me also.

That's why I didn't buy an A4.
Seriously...that is THE reason I didn't buy one. I'll never understand why Audi changed the console like they did. The one in my S4 is perfect for my legs.

I own a B6 A4 3.0 and have NO problems whatsoever...
I honestly have no idea what people are talking about regarding the center console...it does not bother me at all, if anything I think its nice to rest my knee against it occasionally. Also, I'm of average height and weight.

I own a B6 Avant and it bothers me sometimes...
Not always. For me, depending on how far to the right I rest my knee, it can sometimes be bothersome, but other times, it's not an issue.
If you own one and you don't have a problem with it, then great. You must not be exerting a lot of force outward on your right knee on the console to be a problem. But I've taken a few long trips where after a while, fatigue sets in and my right knee needs to move out to the right, resting painfully on the console. I have to put my right hand between my knee and the console when it starts to hurt.
I can definitely see how this may be enough of an irritant to some for a car that may be pushing $50K, so I have a feeling Audi may lose some sales because of it.
For me, it was a minor issue that I could live with on my $30K 1.8T. I'm not really sure yet if I'd be willing to live with in on a $50K car.

Agree... IMO I also think it helps maintain...
proper knee and leg position for car collisions.
You want your knees to bend up (hence the shape
of the lower dash on new & old B5 model).
Also, I use it to help keep lower body
position during tight turns on road courses
or AutoXs.

Only 5' 7".
It doesn't bother me all the time, but there are days when it is noticeable and I know I'm not sitting any differently. I notice that it can be more noticeable when I wear jeans and there is a crease/fold around the right of the knee, which the console essentially pushes into my knee area when I rest it on the console.
I may not be describing it perfectly, but like I said, sometimes I can make my 45 minute drive to work without it bothering me. But there are days when I know my right knee starts to get sore and I need to pad it against the console with my hand.
