Default Has anyone successfully transplanted the B7 steering wheel onto a B6?

I also asked this over at Audizine, but I'd like to put the B7 three spoke multifunction wheel into my B6 which currently has the four spoke multifunction wheel. I know there are issues around the single stage vs. dual stage deployment airbag, but I also know that some folks have successfully transplanted the RS4 wheel into a B6, and it has the same airbag issues.

I'm hooked on the steering wheel controls for the RNS-E, especially since I'm about to add Bluetooth to the setup, but I would also like a beefier, sportier wheel. The B7 wheel is as close as Audi makes aside from the RS4 wheel, and while I think it's okay, I wouldn't want it personally.

Any insights into this one?

Thanks,
Scott

Default yes, and the car went off a cliff : )

seriously, it is probably more trouble than it's worth to try and fit other steering wheel(s).

Default What actually seems ridiculous to me is that Audi...

...couldn't seem to create a single modern steering wheel for the B6. You either had one that could control the telematics but wasn't sporty or one that couldn't but actually feels nice driving. And this was at a point when literally every competitor offered steering wheels that could do both.

With the B7 this was mostly resolved, though I still think the ideal wheel would be the B6 three-spoke with multifunction buttons. Hence my question.

Following the logic of the replies and additional posts, folks shouldn't be inquiring on how to retrofit the RNS-E, either, since that wasn't available on the S4 until the B7 body style...

Default For what it's worth, it does look like the transplant is plug-and-play.

Just for a PM response from 400HPA4 on Audizine, and he says "Yes, it can all be done...every thing is plug and play between the two wheels." Inquiring into pricing now. If anyone is actually interested in the full answer to my question, I'll be happy to post the rest up when I have it.

Default Please post rough costs and results - I too have the 4 spoke multifunction and would like...

to replace with a B7 3 spoke. Only if possible I'd also like to add the paddle shifters (I've got a Tip).

I am interested in gaining some leg room since I believe it is a smaller wheel than the b6 multifunction. I would love to see prices and other details... Thanks and hopefully it is less than the $1300 RS4 wheel.
