I finally got sucked in and installed an intake
Despite all of my incantations regarding the worthlessness of open-air intakes and how the best dollar-to-HP mod you can do is a K&N drop-in filter, I fell prey to the powers of the intake. After hearing A4tooS4's car sound so good with just an intake, I couldn't resist and ponied up for an Evolution Motorsports V-Flow intake.
I chose the EVOms, specifically, based on the design quality. Its heat shield is the best IMO of what's available, they use a K&N filter which I like, and it uses a venturi-type centrifugal intake opening that should assist the flow of air. Despite all of those features, I did not notice a significant power increase. If anything, there was a slight gain in the 4,000-5,500 RPM range.
Best of all though, is the sound. Combined with the Milltek Fullback Res, it now has a balanced, aggresive sound throughout (not just at the rear when I only had exhaust modifications). In addition to the increase balance is a much more refined sound that "screams" a little more than before. Overall, worth every penny just for the sound alone.

Note: the flex-fitting in the middle of my factory air scoop has shrunk for some reason. Accordingly, as you can see, the air scoop does not fit perfectly as it should (i.e. flush with the rubber molding on the fender). I will be replacing/fixing that piece shortly.

http://www.evoms.com/marketplace/viewproduct.asp?productid={689CE535-5D34-4620-8D43-350BEF2FA2F7}</a
