I know C5 A6 problems like the back of my hand. Personally, I would never own an automatic Audi if my life depended on it. "lifetime fluid" my ***.

I am helping my brother buy this car. I said get a 6-speed, however, his wife is insisting that it is an automatic as she will be the primary driver.

Are there any years to watch out for with the auto tranny? I read something to the affect that 04 models and transmission problems, but it didn't go into detail whether it was an auto or stick.

Also, what year did the 4.2 switch to a timing chain from the belts?

the transmission issues are related to manuals with the reverse detent going out making it impossible to shift into reverse.

All the 4.2's on the S4's use timing chain on the rear of the engine.
