In MIXED driving, what mpg could I expect? (m)
I'm close to deciding on an '04 S4 manual, but gas milage issues have me concerned. I'd hate to get less than the 17mpg I average in my current 540i6. My driving is a mix of local--errands, kids, and highway--commute, traffic sometimes. What do you think I can expect. Really appreciated. Thanks,
Steve

I have a tiptronic and I get about 15 to 16 mpg. Prob. a little better w/ manual trany. I drive about 12 to 15 miles per day commuting w/ a mix of highway and streets. The problem w/ this car is that the tank is too small and requires frequent fillups. Otherwise go for it, this a heck of a nice car. I did have 2 Bimmers before this one.

I just made the switch from a 2001 540iA...
... To an S4 Tiptronic. I got a constant 17.5 mpg (combined) with the 540iA driving 75% highways. I only have about 900 miles on the S4, and I am getting about 14.5 mpg driving in the same exact manner. With engine break-in, I expect that mileage to come closer to the 540's. But, if it doesn't, I am not going to stress over it. The S4 is tons more fun to drive than the 540 was. Just expect a firmer ride due to a shorter wheelbase, eighteen inch tires and stiffer suspension. Much less body roll too.

I would expect 14-16 mpg in mixed driving depending on
how heavy a foot you have. BTW got 22mpg highway coming home from the Pocono Mts yesterday. 19+ going. Difference is in the elevation. Coming home was down hill. 45-75 mph, 1/2 highway
