OK, new noise - normal??
By S4 is home and shifting great - it's fixed thank goodness and the car is wonderful. ****ty gas mileage, but I knew that going in. Here's the noise - when I turn the wheel all the way to the left I get a fairly loud g-r-o-a-n which disappears if I move the wheel toward center again. The dealer said they checked it and no problem. Fluid levels OK - is this normal?? Others experiencing this? Seems to me it shouldn't be making this groaning sound. Doesn't happen every time, but more often than not. What do you think?

Re: OK, new noise - normal??
Is this when you are crawling along at parking lot speeds? I had the same noise, it was a loud humming noise that sounded like it was coming from the front brakes/tires/wheels/suspension area. Went to the service tech and he said "Get up to about 40MPH and slam on the brakes, I mean really drive the pedal into the floor. Make the computers go crazy and everything." Well, I did that, a few times, and it didn't help but about 500 miles later it just went away... He said it had something to do with the brakes. Now my brakes are squealing though, god that's annoying on a $60,000 car!

Yeah, my brakes squeal, too ...
but there have been other minor issues, like the transmission (!!) that have been taking up my time. And, yes the noise when I turn all the way to the left is at very slow speeds - I think doesn't matter if I am applying brakes or not - but I'll check. Is there some theory behind the tech's advice of slamming on the brakes and driving your computer nuts?? This isn't the same tech who advised DrGP on the "Motoman" technique of breaking in his car, is it?
