question from an allroad owner with annoying rattles--
Does anyone think that the sedans are built better with fewer rattles or is it just the wagon on the avants have more stuff to jiggle and come loose. I really want an S4 avant next but think maybe I'd get the same bothersome rattles.

More likely the sedan masks at least some of the long term rattles because of cabin size.
Sedan owners are less likely to hear noises at the rear end of the car. I now have an Avant after 2 sedans (A4,S4) and so far haven't heard any rattles that could be attributed to the body design. My single rattle after 7K miles is the flap for the rear end cargo cover (the one at the top of the rear seat) if I leave it loose instead of connected at the back.

The B6 platform is fresher and tighter but it's all about suspension and tires...
in my opinion. Go too far and the bar is a bucket of bolts. The RS-6 is a good example. Ours had MANY rattles. My S4 sedan has a rattle in the light control overhead and the sunroof. Needs more dealer attention, but overall I think the car will stay quiet with time. -Pete, Stratmosphere

Agree to a point but after 2 years with a B6 A4, lots of rattles and squeaks slowly surfacing.
You guys wait till you get a few more months and years on your cars, then answer the question. I had hoped I would be wrong when I first bought a B6, but in the past few months, more and more squeaks and rattles are surfacing. I give you that I have the sport package and drive on typically bad urban roads, but still...
Don't get me wrong, I love my car but the rattles and squeaks do get annoying and really cheapen the overall feel.
Having owned other VW's and Audi's, I'm beginning to think that this is something of a tradeoff for this company. [sigh]
