My humble opinion - V1 still the best overall although certain ones are better in specific area(s
And not sure about dated technology. The bogey counter and arrows are still much better than almost any other detector in delivering usable warnings, and they roll changes into the V1 as they go along so no planned obsolescence like most others.
It may look dated compared to some, but inside, it's up to date.

Escort SRX
Enjoy the remote dash mount on the steering column, hidden laser shifters/jammers (front and rear), and tiny green/red led mounted on my rear view mirror wire cover.
Expensive, but a good ebayer can get it for cost.

I have both. I'm not overly impressed with my V1. The firmware updates aren't sufficient.
I recently purchased a 9500 and it took the place of my V1. 9500 is superior.
IMO, V1 is relying too much on its name and notoriety. They are not keeping up.

I own both.... like the V1 better
I have a Passport 6800 and a V1. Granted, the Passport is older, but the V1 is far more sensitive, especially on the K and Ka bands. The laser is TOO sensitive as some SUV's high mounted tail lights will trigger it. I personally think the arrows are a great feature as they let me know if I passed the signal (as in a sign or officer going the other way). I would buy another one in a minute, but it is expensive. Like most things, you do get what you pay for. I have been using radar detectors since I learned to drive over 20 years ago, and the V1 is the best I have ever used, period.
