Default I've looked at the Evo for years, have an STI that's a touch off stock (see pic poster)...

the EVO article just sealed the deal on my getting one.

Default Modding and reliability don't have to exist on different planets...

a turbo back exhaust, an intake, high flow cat, that's already a different car.

Of course, I probably won't stop there.

Agreed. Modding done correctly can be reliable.

Default I respect the Mitsu...

but in day to day driving, i'd say that Evo would be a bitch. The RS4 would would be easy on all the senses, and be pretty doggone quick as well.

Now, for a track car the Mitsu would be the most fun(and quick)to beat the hell out of.

But for this particular car, to get the levels of HP everyone wants? Don't see it.

Default Give the Z06 a run? On an autocross course, maybe, but on a racetrack

the Z06 has more torque, is geared better, and is a light, balanced sports car. You can't miss a gear in that car. The EVO does not have that big of an advantage in the weight or weight distribution area (or any advantage at all for that matter). On a course like the Ring or Big Willowsprings track, goodbye, see ya.

Default You're leaving out the intangibles which appear to be important

for many, particularly the press. Case in point, Evo magazine preferred the M3 CS over the RS4 because of the pure feel and control of the car. The RS4 is faster around the track and has more horsepower but the M3 seems to draw the most raves. Remember we're talking about a dated chassis with the E46 that has been around forever now and this RS4 is the latest and greatest Audi has to offer. Just wait til the E90 M3 comes.

Anyway, the Evo is much the same I think with regards to intangibles and connection between the driver and the road. Let's not forget the cost is only a fraction of the Z06 or RS4. But yes, the Evo is hideous to look at.
