(sigh) Quattro.....

strange, those measurements are different than the ones ...
posted in the comparo (the road and track one, i think) a few weeks ago. to be honest i'm not sure how they measure rear legroom -- i.e., what position the front seats need to be in.
could someone repost the road and track figures? i searched the archives but i can't find them.

but we don't know if the two manufacturers are ...
calculating the numbers in the same way. that's why a magazine comparo is more useful -- we know they'll at least be internally consistent. as i recall, road and track did exactly that and the m3 ended up having more rear room.

Quattro helps with one thing
Acceleration in wet/snow. It doesn't help with steering that much...it doesn't help at all with braking, IMHO.
Anyone new to the quattro drivetrain really needs to be careful. It makes poor or foolish drivers drive better in snow, ice, rain, but it is NOT gonna help you with many conditions. Be careful out there..and don't get too cocky about having quattro.
I have gotten myself in trouble lots of times in the rain...and I have driven quattros for over 120,000 miles.

I've worked in the magazine business for years, and to be honest...
I'd be really surprised if a car magazine actually went to the trouble of checking something like rear seat leg room. Information like that is usually entered in using manufacturer-provided specs, and IMHO it's more likely that the info was entered wrong in the R&T case than it is that it something that they took the time to measure.
Being the deadline driven business that it is, magazine writer's are scurrying to record their driving impressions and performance data. Most measurements and technical specifications are probably relied upon from the manufacturer and rarely checked or challenged.

I'd expect BMW to err in their own favor...
on data they publish comparing the two cars. I know you won't take my word for it but with seats fully back in both cars, the S4 has more leg room. The S4 has more room than the 330i too.
