Looking at various sites, the only motor I see for the S-line is the 4.2 V8.

However, my ex-wife is sure that her 08 S-line convertible has the 3.2.

I ask, because her motor has gone bad and I'm wondering what to put in there.

I'll answer my own question. Just went and saw the car. It is an S-Line, which is simply a trim-level designation, I'm told. It is a 3.2.

The S4 is the one that only came as a 4.2.

I was confusing an A4 S-line with an S4.

As for what will fit in there and work well, I was told:
4.2 will fit, but you'll need ECU etc.
2.7t will go in, but you'll need ECU etc.
3.0 SC will go in and probably is the best choice, but will need ECU etc.

Or, just put in another 3.2 and be done with it. That's the route I'm inclined to take.
